“As a legislator, some of the most heartbreaking things I hear in my district are that we are all corrupt and the apathetic sense that things will never change. Cases like this reinforce those regrettable opinions. Regardless of a lawmaker’s party affiliation, the fact remains that Dean Skelos disgraced his office and used his power, influence and money for personal gain and now he is rightfully paying the price. I hope this represents a turning point in Albany, where lawmakers are held accountable and we can begin to regain the public’s confidence, which starts with pension forfeiture for corrupt lawmakers and term limits for legislative leaders.”
