McLAUGHLIN DEFENDS NEW YORKERS FROM GOVERNOR’S TEMPER TANTRUM

          Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin (R,C,I-Troy) continues to defend upstate New Yorkers against Gov. Cuomo’s threatening tirade earlier this week. Following the release of Congressional Republicans’ American Health Care Act (AHCA), the governor lashed out, stating that the new health care plan would devastate New York’s healthcare system. If the AHCA is passed, the governor has threatened an additional 26 percent income tax on the middle class. This threat comes after Gov. Cuomo’s budget proposal included $4.3 billion in discretionary funding.

McLAUGHLIN DEMANDS INVESTIGATION INTO CRYSTAL RUN HEALTHCARE DONATIONS

          Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin (R,C,I-Troy) today wrote to Chairman Michael K. Rozen and Commissioners of the Joint Commission on Public Ethics, along with U.S Attorney Preet Bharara, calling for an investigation into ties between Crystal Run Healthcare and Gov. Cuomo’s administration. In 2013, Crystal Run Healthcare executives gave 10 separate $25,000 donations to Gov. Cuomo. This large $250,000 donation came as a surprise, because many of these executives hadn’t donated in the past decade. After the donations were made, Crystal Run Healthcare was awarded a $25.4 million taxpayer-funded grant that was intended to be part of a bidding process.

McLAUGHLIN BLASTS CUOMO’S TAXPAYER-FUNDED PRESIDENTIAL PHOTO-OP

          Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin (R,C,I-Troy) is calling Gov. Cuomo’s trip to Israel an excuse to step into the spotlight. There have recently been numerous anti-Semitic acts committed toward the Jewish community in New York State. Last week Gov. Cuomo announced he would spend the weekend in Israel to ease any concerns or fears our Jewish population may have. The governor brought members of his administration with him on this 15-hour trip to Israel.

McLAUGHLIN CALLS FOR GREATER COLLEGE ACCESSIBILITY

          Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin (R,C,I-Troy) today attended a press conference led by Assembly Minority Leader Brian M. Kolb (R,C,I,Ref-Canandaigua), Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci (R,C,I-South Huntington) and Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis (R,C,I-Brooklyn, Staten Island) where they presented plans to improve college accessibility. These proposals will highlight advancements in the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) and ways to assist those currently paying off student loans. With limited financial concerns, more students will have the option to attend college in New York.

          Today, Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin (R,C,I-Troy) attended a Joint Budget Hearing where he uncovered tax increases in Gov. Cuomo’s budget. McLaughlin questioned NYS Executive Deputy Commissioner of Taxation & Finance, Nonie Manion, about the governor’s proposals and  received a confession that freezing STAR savings would result in tax increases on New Yorkers.

McLAUGHLIN CALLS FOR RIDESHARING SERVICES IN CAPITAL REGION

          Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin (R,C,I-Troy) joined fellow legislators and local stakeholders today to speak out about the importance of ridesharing services in the Capital Region. Led by Assemblyman Ray Walter and Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh, the press conference focused on the many benefits that these services provide. Services like Uber and Lyft are currently available in New York City but not yet legal in the rest of the state. Ridesharing has been shown to boost economic development, create jobs, heighten safety and raise industry standards across the board.

          Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin (R,C,I-Troy) is pleased to announce that the New York State Library has awarded four grants to libraries in the 107th Assembly District (Columbia and Rensselaer counties).
