Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin (R,C,I-Schaghticoke) today reiterated his previous calls for the resignation and removal of New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver. McLaughlin said this is a culmination of the disgrace, crime and poison coming from Speaker Silver during the last several years. McLaughlin is gratified that many other Assembly members are joining him in calling for the resignation and/or ousting of Silver due to his arrest earlier this morning.
“The long-awaited drain of the swamp has finally commenced,” McLaughlin said. “This arrest has been a long time coming and Silver should have resigned after he used taxpayer money to keep the victims of sexual harassment quiet. Silver’s disgraceful behavior is one of the main reasons that residents have no trust in state government. Thankfully, many of my Assembly colleagues are finally joining me in calling for Silver’s resignation and ouster from the Assembly. His actions over the last few years have been deplorable to say the least, and he is unfit to hold office any longer.”
McLaughlin’s comments come after Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver turned himself in to the FBI this morning due to an investigation of his financial disclosures, a legal requirement of all legislators.
