Today, Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin (R,C,I-Troy) joined Assembly Republicans to dispute new immigration bills that would attempt to override federal law. These bills would give special treatment to illegal immigrants, providing them with exemptions and services paid for by our tax dollars and commute their prison sentences.
“New York is happy to welcome immigrants, but they must come in legally,” said McLaughlin. “We must focus on taking care of law-abiding New Yorkers instead of jeopardizing their safety to protect people who aren’t supposed to be here in the first place. Our citizens pay among the highest taxes in the nation, and Assembly Democrats are now suggesting more state spending to provide for these illegals. Assembly Democrats are proposing bills that would essentially ignore federal law in order to further their own political agendas. We need to stop making it easier for these people to break the law and force them to come in legally.”
