Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin (R,C,I-Troy) today wrote to Chairman Michael K. Rozen and Commissioners of the Joint Commission on Public Ethics, along with U.S Attorney Preet Bharara, calling for an investigation into ties between Crystal Run Healthcare and Gov. Cuomo’s administration. In 2013, Crystal Run Healthcare executives gave 10 separate $25,000 donations to Gov. Cuomo. This large $250,000 donation came as a surprise, because many of these executives hadn’t donated in the past decade. After the donations were made, Crystal Run Healthcare was awarded a $25.4 million taxpayer-funded grant that was intended to be part of a bidding process.
“I am concerned these donations set in motion the pay-to-play process for Crystal Run Healthcare to receive $25.4 million in state funds through secret negotiations with the administration,” wrote McLaughlin. “There is certainly something strange going on between the governor and Crystal Run Healthcare. I am demanding an investigation into the events that have ensued. Ensuring elected officials are honest, transparent and accountable to New Yorkers is among my top priorities, and I plan to hold the governor accountable if his behavior was unethical in any way.”
