“It is degrading and insulting to the women of this state that Gov. Cuomo is refusing to sign the multitude of women’s equality bills that were passed this legislative session. This is legislation that he pushed for and was passed several months ago. If he really cared about protecting New York’s women he would have signed these bills already. Instead, he and his Democratic cronies are using women’s rights for political leverage as they have done for the past three years. It is clear that the governor is delaying signing these bills until he feels he has enough media attention to bring a halt to his sliding poll numbers.
“New York’s women have been waiting long enough for these bills to become law. They protect mothers from discrimination during the hiring process, ensure women are paid equal wages to men, and strengthen penalties against human trafficking, among other things. I have urged the Legislature to pass these protections for years, but Assembly Democrats maliciously linked their passage to a controversial abortion bill. If the governor doesn’t sign these bills soon we are going to start thinking he flip-flopped on this issue – but that wouldn’t be anything new.”
