“I applaud the tens of thousands of New Yorkers that sent Gov. Cuomo and the Board of Regents a message by opting out of the Common Core tests this week. The Common Core curriculum has been irresponsibly implemented since its inception, but bureaucrats at the top of our education system continue to reinforce its abuse and neglect of teachers and students.
“Two weeks ago, during our exhaustive debate of the state’s education budget bill, I stood by our teachers, students and parents and urged the legislature to look at the dangers of this policy and vote no on the bill. Now, we have seen what grassroots efforts can do when entrenched politicians and an ideological governor refuse to take action. Unfortunately this administration likes to see information be swept under the rug, but I am calling on Gov. Cuomo and the state Education Department to release the total number of students who chose to opt-out of this month’s Common Core tests. Taxpayers across the state deserve to know the true magnitude of our efforts. For more information on opting out or the Assembly Republicans’ alternative to Common Core, please visit www.childrenbeforepolitics.com.”
