Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin (R,C,I-Troy) is calling Gov. Cuomo’s trip to Israel an excuse to step into the spotlight. There have recently been numerous anti-Semitic acts committed toward the Jewish community in New York State. Last week Gov. Cuomo announced he would spend the weekend in Israel to ease any concerns or fears our Jewish population may have. The governor brought members of his administration with him on this 15-hour trip to Israel.
“The governor’s priority should be to ease tensions in his own state rather than use taxpayer money to fund his own presidential photo-op,” said McLaughlin. “It’s appalling that Gov. Cuomo is using these disturbing events to benefit himself politically. At a time when the state’s Jewish community is hurting, his lack of judgment is extremely alarming. Last December the United Nations passed a resolution forcing Israel to cease settlement activities in Palestinian territory. The governor refused to comment on this resolution since he saw no benefit in it for himself. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Jewish community and especially those who have been affected by these recent events.”
