Dear Friends,

Two years ago, you gave me the honor to serve you in Albany. I take that trust seriously. I campaigned for office on four basic principles of creating jobs, capping taxes, cutting spending and fighting corruption. In two short years, I’ve delivered as promised: capped property taxes, secured $62.7 million in local economic development, restored $1.3 billion in education aid, and voted against $2.6 billion in tax hikes.

There are 212 state legislators and I’m proud to be ranked the #1 pro-jobs legislator by The Business Council of New York State for 2011-2012. This honor is recognition of my commitment to fighting for lower taxes and fewer regulations for entrepreneurs in the Empire State. I will continue the fight to make New York more business-friendly and improve Upstate's economy.

I pledge that I will continue to work as hard for your family as I do for mine. Thank you for placing your trust in me.

Steve

Dear Assemblyman McLaughlin:

My friends no longer wonder why ─ as a former law enforcement officer, combat-experienced Special Forces officer, and a respected NRA-certified firearms Instructor ─ I discourage students, acquaintances, friends, and family members from visiting the State of New York, particularly New York city, but not to the exclusion of the rest of that criminally-oriented area of my country. Being able to help others in need has been the most rewarding part of my life, and I have no desire to have my life foreshortened by a statutory dictate that I be unable to do so when I and/or others are most in need.

My travels throughout the country for which I hazarded my life has occasionally made it necessary to be a status criminal merely by crossing a jurisdictional boundary. If it is not a necessity ─ and visiting New York is certainly no necessity, even were catastrophe to befall that oppressive cesspool again ─ I have no desire to test New York’s unConstitutional legislative, judicial, or executive dictates.

Cogito, ergo armatus sum.

Dear Sheriff O’Flynn,

I am writing to express my concerns regarding the newly passed legislation: NY SAFE Act. This is a direct ‘assault’ to the supposedly unalienable rights in the Bill of Rights: Second Amendment as part of the U.S. Constitution. Further, the NYS Bill of Rights is even more clear, stating, “…the right to bear arms CANNOT be infringed.” I hope you’ll honor your oath to defend the U.S. and N.Y. Constitutions. Do the RIGHT thing! Make it clear that Gov. Cuomo has overstepped his authority as governor, rammed this legislation through the middle of the night without public debate (the usual 3-day waiting period waived!) and more abhorrently he’s using the latest tragedies to further his own political agenda for re-election in 2014 and presidential run in 2016 — this is the MOST disturbing!!

This new law not only infringes on our right to own and carry; it makes it nearly impossible to own any type of gun in New York State. Almost every modern gun is semi-automatic and I know of no current gun maker that manufactures 6-round clips (maybe subcompacts, but not all). That means no round in the chamber for even a 7-round clip. That means ALL current 10-round ammo clips will become illegal for most full-sized handguns. And lastly, when was the last time you know of that CRIMINALS would obey these types of laws? This ONLY hurts law-abiding citizens. More effective legislation would have been HARSHER penalties for ILLEGAL gun use, NO plea-bargaining allowable on certain violent crimes AND no early release (like psycho firefighter KILLER such as Spengler) for violent murders (hammer, knives, club, pipes, etc.)

As a responsible gun-owner, calling the State Police hotline, we cannot get a straight answer — sometimes taking four or more calls to get different answers to the SAME question. Even some lawyers cannot interpret this law accurately. The reason: legislation that was RUSHED, no public debate and lawmakers who opposed this bill had less than ONE hour to review it.

Respectfully,
Paul Schiller
